Illustrator & animator turned product designer
I’ve loved drawing and painting for as long as I can remember, from oil portraits and marker-pen cartoons to charcoal landscapes and gouache florals. Later on, I discovered Photoshop and revelled in the undo button.
I went on to study graphic design and fine art, working between traditional and digital, before getting a degree in Illustration with Animation at Manchester Metropolitan University. Mostly, though, I’m self-taught, through online tutorials, books and practice.
After that, I spent eight years at Arctic Shores, a game-based assessment company, creating the concept art, illustrations and UI for their mobile apps. That quickly grew into animation and designing the game levels themselves, within very tight constraints. When the product moved into the browser as a SaaS platform, I moved into UX design, spending my final years there in that role and learning everything I could on the job.
In 2023, I joined an app design agency, working in Figma every day from discovery and user flows to high-fidelity UI and developer handoff. I designed for travel, retail, food and drink, student accommodation and holiday letting clients, which taught me a lot about how different industries and companies work.
In my spare time, I’m learning where Claude Code and other tools can enhance my workflow, and using them to help bridge the gap between design and development.
